Visian ICL

Are you tired of wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses to manage your vision issues? The EVO Visian® ICL™ is an implantable lens that offers long-term vision correction in a simple 15-minute procedure. Let board-certified ophthalmologist Justin Coco in Denver, CO, help you see the world clearly again with ICL surgery.

What Is an ICL?

An ICL, or implantable collamer lens, is a refractive eye implant that works much like a permanent contact lens. It's positioned behind the iris and in front of the natural lens of the eye, which focuses light on the retina and allows you to see sharp images.

The EVO ICL is made by Starr® Surgical, a leading implantable lens manufacturer. Visian is a recent addition to the EVO ICL product line. It's made of collamer, a blend of plastic and collagen that makes for an incredibly thin and flexible lens.

The Visian ICL is placed through a small opening in the cornea, where it unfolds into place over the natural lens. After a brief healing period, your dependence on contact lenses and glasses should be greatly reduced or eliminated.

LASIK vs. Visian ICL Which Is Right for You?

You've probably heard of LASIK, an incredibly popular laser vision correction procedure. Like the EVO Visian ICL, LASIK can also treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, but there are key differences between the two.

LASIK

  • Can treat mild to moderate nearsightedness
  • Risk of developing dry eye
  • Does not offer UV protection
  • Corneal tissue is slightly altered during surgery
  • Can be revised, but not reversed

EVO Visian ICL

  • Can treat more severe nearsightedness than LASIK
  • Does not cause dry eye
  • Offers UV protection
  • No alteration of the cornea
  • Can be reversed

LASIK does tend to be less expensive than ICL surgery, but it's not suitable for patients with thin corneas, whereas ICLs are. Corneal thinness is a relatively common condition that can be hereditary, so if your parents or relatives were diagnosed with thin corneas, there is a greater chance that you will be, too.

Your doctor can measure the thickness of your corneas and discuss which option is best for you during a consultation at our ophthalmology office in Denver, CO.

Flexible Financing For Your Vision Correction

Unfortunately, ICLs are considered elective and are not covered by most insurance companies, but treatment can stay comfortably within your budget thanks to financing. Our Denver practice accepts CareCredit®, which offers financing plans with low or no interest. This allows you to pay for your treatment over time rather than all at once.
